Fashionable Eyewear

Hi everyone! Hope you are having a stress free Thursday! This has been such a crazy busy week that I am most definitely looking forward to the weekend! Next week, I'm flying to NYC...yay!! Super excited and looking forward to catching up with all my friends there and soaking up some warm northern hemisphere weather!

Ok, I am an accessories girl through and through. I love my fashion jewellery pieces, bags, clutches, shoes, scarves, headbands...the list goes on. When I truly love something, I have a habit of collecting them (some of you may remember the handkerchief collection that I start many moons ago =P) My recent love?...Glasses! Not the nerdy ones that you are picturing in your head right now, but the modern, sleek and trendy ones that you can wear both functionally to improve your sight, and/or enjoy as a fashion accessory to add interest or complement your ensemble. So when my wonderful friend and eyewear guru generously offered me to try out some of the beautiful glasses at Henderson's Optical, I thought, it would be so rude of me to refuse =P
From the top: Kirk Originals; Clayton Franklin; Tom Ford; Francis Klein; Alain Mikli
Fashion designers and style icons have long embraced eyewear as an accessory that adds the instant panache to any look. The demand for fashionable eyewear is enormous, with sunglasses being one of the most popular eyewear, adored by celebrities and the general public. People are now more focused on the fashion benefits of prescription eyewear, and utilising their glasses to express their individuality and personal style. Even people with perfect sight are wearing them (either with no lenses, or lenses without prescription). Glasses are no longer considered to be nerdy, instead, they have transcended to be a fabulous style statement.

With so many choices in the market, it can be a little daunting to make the right selection. My friend was incredibly helpful and knowledgeable. She eagerly showed me some of the latest trends in eyewear and patiently explained the designer's history, the brand, its style and quality of craftsmanship. I was amazed with the varieties at Henderson's Optical boutique store, ohh'd and ahh'd over so many pairs of the beautifully hand crafted creations.

My favourite ones from her shop:

Kirk Originals
UK brand, super quirky and so much fun! The label has been pushing the envelope in eyewear materials and design to new levels for the last 20 years. I love this sparkly pair that comes in this beautiful cherry colour on the outside and cooler silver sparkles from the inside. I wish I could also wear it inside out...ha.

Clayton Franklin

Can't go wrong with a pair in tortoise shell. The colour combination is tasteful and the shape is just perfect for almost every occasion.

Tom Ford
Distinguished fashion designer with a great taste in eyewear. Cat-eye is definitely attention seeking, and packed full of personality =) If you are interested in the cat eye shape, you can also find them here and here.

Francis Klein
Beautifully hand crafted all the way from France. Love the rhinestones set on the frame, the colour and the shape. She is like a fancy lady, ready for Sunday brunch and a stroll in the park.

Alain Mikli
Another beautiful pair that is hand made in France. She has such an understated aura of beauty and calmness. I love how sophisticated she looks and personally think she'll be a winner in the board room.

I hope I have enticed you to try fashionable eyewear just for fun (if you haven't already =)). If you are in Melbourne, take a wonder to Henderson's Optical for an amazing optical experience. Trust me, your eyes will thank you for it! =)

  1. I like this post! I like the tortise shell, cat eye and the glittery ones. I got a pair a year ago and feel the frames are small compared to the big trendy, nerd ones that are popular now. it gives me an idea of what style i want next!

  6. All of those are nice. Eyewear should flatter the shape and color of your eyes. If I had to choose just two I would go for the last two pairs. Those have an interesting shape and color. The red set appeals to me more because of the color. However the black has a nicer shape for my tastes.
