Vintage Inspired Floral Bib Necklace

Hi everyone! Hope you are all enjoying this short week! I have been fighting off flu symptoms for the last couple of days and as part of the self-recovery process, I decided that I needed some cheerful colours and a good dose of nature (my home-made secret recipe to any common colds and flu =P). Nature has a great way of opening our eyes, elevating our moods and healing our wounds. Amazingly what we wear, can also determine how we feel internally. As a cheer up, I put on this vintage inspired floral bib necklace and combined it with a pair of more modern and polished mustard jeans...Flu begone!

In my heart of hearts, I am an accessories girl, so vintage or vintage inspired pieces have always kept me fascinated. At this point, I should explain a little bit more about the terms "vintage", "antique" and "retro" in the fashion context.

The word "vintage" is a borrowed word from the wine terminology. It is a fairly generic word these days, but the correct application is to use it when referring to old items (i.e., worn/second hand) or new items (i.e., deadstock, which is warehouse stock that has never been worn) produced between 1920s - 1960s. Now, items produced prior to the 1920s are classified as antiques. You may have heard of the word "retro". It is short for retrospective, or "vintage style", and usually refers to clothing that imitates the style of a previous era. These pieces are not truly vintage items as they are reproduced faithful copies of an older item.

Bib necklaces are no doubt one of my all time favourite accessories. They are a true statement piece, where I can just let "it" do all the talking. Vintage ones are a little harder to get your hands on, but in the mean time, a vintage inspired piece can be equally as powerful.  I like to mix different textures when I dress, it keep things interesting and also creates some depth and dimension to what I'm wearing. So, when you are feeling more experimental, why not do some mix and matching yourself? Try out a mixture of old with the new. Push the boundaries a little and you may just be pleasantly surprised!
