The Teal Deal

Hi Everyone! Hope you are enjoying yourself and having some fun at the moomba festival during this long  weekend. I must admit, it has been a while since I last went on one of those rides, but the fireworks are always a crowd pleaser at the end of the night. During one of my recent shopping trips, I picked up this teal blazer. The fabric is relatively light weight, perfect for transitional seasons and I just adore the black silk lapels. I think that was the selling point for me. Since taking her home I have not regretted the decision, as the colour and the style of the blazer are surprisingly versatile in pairing.
Teal to me is such a lush and sophisticated mixture of blue and green. It is a cooler colour and belongs to the colder seasonal colour palette, which is why teal would make a great colour addition to your autumn/winter wardrobe. Believe it or not, "teal" got its name from what surrounds the eyes of the common teal (a member of the duck family). No wonder I always closely relate some of the fancy peacock feather colours with teal. Nature give us some of the best inspiration! =)

Many of you may already love this colour, and if you are wondering what colour to pair with teal, here are some tips to consider...
  1. If you prefer a simple and clean look, one where you don't want to break up the colour or the eye too much, I would go with harmonious colours (e.g., pair with navy blue, other blue or green shades. These colours all sit adjacent to each other on the colour wheel)
  2. For a more dynamic pairing, throw in some hunter grey, blush pink, saffron, camel or violet into the mix for a real splash.
  3. If you are unsure of these suggested colour combinations, I would try them in small doses first before going for the full commitment. Colour blocking is fantastic, but it can be quite confronting, you really need feel confident and happy with the mix
  4. Small scale colour pairing/injection with your teal "centre pieces" may be your makeup (e.g., nail and lip colours). Accessories are also fantastic (e.g., belts, hats, shoes, handbags, scarf, gloves, hair etc).

As we move into autumn, it may be time to think about the colours that bring out the best of that season. Teal, the elegant jewel tone has a layer of richness and vibrancy that is great for the colder months, and a brilliant way to add some interest to an understated wardrobe.
