Unleash Your Power Shoulders

Hi everyone! Hope Monday has been treating you well! First day back from the weekend is usually a little harder, until we get back into the routine and charge on for the rest of the week. Today was an exciting day for me, as my team celebrated our first major milestone in launching a new product into the market. We are beginning to see the fruits of our labour! As we prepare ourselves for further battles ahead, I can't help but  wonder how we sometimes rely on fashion and clothing to project confidence. Whether it is the way the product makes us feel or the actual visual impact it creates, from time to time, we all need that extra boost to help and carry us through.  And there is no better boost than some power shoulder action!
In the past, I was never a massive fan of the power shoulder blazer and have always firmly believed that it take a certain person or personality to pull off this statement clothing. As a result, for quite some time now, I have been the observer that stood behind the lines and watched it safely from afar. One impulse purchase later, I was smitten by the result. I love the sangria colour of this blazer, it is such a fun colour to add a bit of "personality" and structure.

When I think of power shoulders, I think of the massive shoulder pads from the 80s, and the show "Golden Girls". Although shoulder pads were used with clothing from the 1930s, it wasn't until the 80s that it really helped to shape and define the fashion of an era.

Known as the era of power dressing, the 80s with its fashion statement - shoulder pads - bestowed the perception of status and position to those who wore them. The power shoulder started to loose its appeal in the 90s as tastes began to change, however, in the 21st century, we have seen a resurgence of shoulder pads. The modern day power shoulder blazer is the edgier version of your go-to boyfriend blazer, and very reminiscent of the 80s.

Whether you are the proud owner of the power shoulder blazer(s) or shudder at the thought of them, there is no denying of their strong visual impact. If you are a bystander like I once was, I hope you will take a chance on it, because there will come that day when we could use an extra bit of "power"!
