The Modern Studded Denim

Hi everyone! Happy Wednesday! Hope you are having a fabulous day! Despite plenty of sunshine, it's soooooo cold out there today. If you are in NYC...keep warm and bundle up!! =) I took these photos a few days ago when the weather was a lot milder. No doubt having just returned from a tropical resort island, I was already thinking about spring! Speaking of the new season, I have been on the hunt for a classic cut denim jacket for a while now, and my search ended when I discovered this little "stud".

Studding has become a big trend of late. They are most often spotted on jackets, shirts, jeans, shorts, vests, bags and even shoes. They come in all sorts of shapes (e.g., flat, pyramid, pointy) and colours (e.g., gold, silver, metallic colors), adorning clothing/accessories in either concentrated clusters, neat lines, or a scattered spread. I am personally a big fan of the studs. They may appear a little intimidating, but are generally quite safe to wear. The first time I saw them on a jacket I approached with caution and touched them like they might actually hurt..haha.

I think studs or spikes or chains add a tough and edgy personality to denim and are exceptionally complementary to the material. If you want to give studding a go but are not sure where to start, I would test them out on accessories such as bags or shoes first. Try also looking for studs that are smaller, less pointy, and with a more rounded shape. Fear not, there are plenty on the market this season that are more modern, sophisticated and a lot gentler. Some of the miniature studs are more like a splash of stars across the night sky instead of battle armor =P

I hope you'll have a lot of fun with this trend and maybe even try to DIY some cool studs to embellish your denim or military inspired outfits!
